The Siusi Alps
Meadow time
Walk or cycle along this high plateau setting and its gentle hills and expanses of grass and it feels like you’re suspended in mid air. Quiet, welcoming mountain huts tempt visitors to stop, look and listen to nature. From Sassolungo to Sciliar the Dolomites rise up from the meadows like silent witnesses to the passing seasons: delicate blooms in spring, breezy meadows in summer, bright, warm colours in autumn and snow enfolding everything in winter. Time slows down here and the views invite visitors into a balanced and harmonious nature experience.
Light and traces of history
Beyond the mountain profiles the high plateau is a treasure trove: isolated chapels, ancient stones and views seemingly midway between legend and real life. Chiesa di San Francesco in Compatsch is a haven of peace and quiet. Elsewhere its paths and clearings are suffused with ancient traditions and stories, punctuating the landscape with evocative landmarks from which to contemplate. In winter the Siusi Alps are a downhill skiing destination and part of the Dolomiti Superski area.
